Nancy Gyes Clinics June 15 - 18
See bottom of page for possible changes.

Nancy Gyes, AKC World Team Coach, will return for a mid week clinics in June 15- 18,  2010.  We have just a few working spots left.  Nancy uses and teaches the Greg Derrett system.     Training building in case of hard rain, clean bathrooms, pavilion on agility fenced agility field.  No lunch provided for half day clinics.

Half Day  Working Clinics $75 10 dog limit, $30 unlimited audit if paid by May 15, $50 after May 15.

1.  8 - 12 Am  Cues, consistency and reinforcement of cross work ( working waiting list)
The short jumping skill drills Nancy will present in this  session will focus on cues you use for front and rear cross side changes and how to use acceleration and deceleration cues. In order to be consistent one cue needs to signal just one behavior. For instance, the cue for a rear cross should be the handler crossing behind the dogs path on a diagonal line to the wing of the jump closest to the dogs new path. If the dog is turning to the right on a rear cross, the handler should be focused on moving to the right side of the jump. If the dog will be turning to the left after the rear cross, the handler should be running towards the left wing of the jump. Reinforcement for responses to cues helps produce a dog who joyously and quickly takes your direction and responds consistently to the body language and verbal directions given by the handler. Cues for behaviors should be totally different or the dogs response to your cues will not be consistent.  Most drills will be short and have only one or two side changes. At the masters level threadle and serpentine drills will also be presented.

2.  Tuesday,  June 15 1- 5 pm   Got  Foundation?  (working waiting list)
Want to make sure you are on the right track on your foundation training, or think you are ready to compete? Or do you think you might have missed some basic foundation skills like flat work, deceleration, acceleration and great start lines even though you have already started competing?

Whether you need help with your groundwork and stays, or a bit of remedial teamwork training, this is the session for you.  Go into the ring as a team with your dog knowing that your skills are in place and you are ready to run. The working spots in this group will be reserved for dogs that are ready for serious training or have recently started trialing. This would be a great session to audit if you have a puppy or would like to see what your current agility dog may be missing.

3. June 16  8 - 12 AM    Beyond Basic Weaves
   working spots still open

As soon as you finish teaching your dog rudimentary right and left sides weaves, you are ready to begin taking your weave training to a different level. But coincidentally, these advanced exercises will greatly help you achieve reliability in every set of poles. The advanced weave pole workshop will address some of the following weave skills.
Weave going away from you
Weave coming to you
Weaving at a lateral distance
Hitting the hardest entries
Staying in through the toughest exits
Front cross in and out of the poles
Rear cross in and out of the poles
Make your dog an independent weaver!

4.  June 16  1- 5 pm    Course Analysis  Unlimited observers $40.

This session will examine the process of analyzing an agility course from both the map and walk-through to determine the most effective path for both the dog and the handler, as well as making choices in the execution of side changes and handling manoeuvres.
The session will have two parts. The first part will address ideas which will aid the handler in determining how to handle the course using the course map. The second part will be actual course walk-throughs of at least 2 courses to analyze the equipment layout and discussions about implementing course handling strategies.

5.  June 17 - 18  High drive advanced handling clinic, (working waiting list). 12 Working Dogs,  $300,  $50 per day to audit if paid by May 15, After May 15(should spots be left) $75, limited to 8 auditors.

Some of you have asked about a private lesson and I have passed that along, but the answer is the same as it has been in the past.  Nancy is pooped after giving her all during the clinic. Sorry, no privates.

Nancy poses with junior handler, Morgan Williams.

DogWorks youngest handler, Morgan Williams, had a great time at the Nancy Gyes clinic.

I'm not sure if Morgan had more fun running the courses or playing with Nancy's Sheltie, Jack!
